What’s Missing?

August 30, 2009                Pastor Scott Oldenburgh

There are 2 commitments that Fellowship of the Metroplex asks of its’ people:  Serve in the regular ministries of the church (Practice) and serve in the local community (The Game).

ê  Why do you think we use the terms practice and the game for the ideas of serving?

ê  What is the value of practice?

ê  What is the expectation of the game?

ê  How do practice and the game differ?

ê  How are they the same?

ê  How do they depend on each other?

ê  What are the obstacles to serving?

ê  What does it cost to serve others?

ê  When is service the most difficult?

ê  What does it take for service to happen effectively in a church?  In a community?  In your own life?

Read back over Romans 12 and I Corinthians 12

ê  What are some of the gifts and abilities that you think God has given you to serve others?

ê  How are you currently utilizing those gifts?

ê  Are your gifts being used for His kingdom growth?

ê  How could you use the gifts, talents, and resources that God has given you to make a difference in His kingdom?

ê  Where could this best begin to take place?

This week would be a good time to evaluate your areas of service to the church and the local community

ê  Write out every area that you are currently serving in your church . . . in your community.

ê  Which of these are you truly enjoying?

ê  Why do you find yourself involved in these areas?

ê  Are there areas that come to mind in which you wish you were serving, but currently are not? Why?

ê  What happens if you become disconnected from the church in your service?

ê  What happens if you only serve in the church and become disconnected from the community?

ê  What are the values of serving both in the church and in the community?
