Being The Role Model For Our Kids
Part 4 of 4 in the series “Help, I’m A Parent!”

SOBERING TRUTH

One of the scariest realities for us as parents is that our children (watch) and often (mimic) everything we do

“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
Ephesians 5:1-2

GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY

If we can somehow figure out how to love God and love others, our children will see what is most (important) in this life

“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it:  Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

Matthew 22:37-39

WORD OF CAUTION

Our children have the unique ability to smell out (hypocrisy)

“But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”

Matthew 18:6

WHAT CAN I BEGIN TO MODEL FOR MY KIDS?

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.  Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.  Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

Galatians 5:22-25

Score on a scale of 1 (extremely poor) to 10 (excellent) where you are on the fruits of the spirit where it comes to your children:

Love

Joy

Peace

Patience

Kindness

Goodness

Faithfulness

Gentleness

Self-Control

PRINCIPLE:  Those who belong to Christ Jesus should (live) like it (v. 24)

PROMISE:    You are not (alone) (v. 25)
