Our Kids
Part 4 of 4 in the series “Help, I’m A Parent!”

Who were your role models when you
were growing up?
ê Which of
them are you glad you modeled?
ê Which of
them are you thankful you didn’t?
ê What is the
task of a role model?
ê Does a role
model have to sign up for the job?
Read back over Deuteronomy 6 one more time
ê
As a parent, what is your role when it comes to your children?
Read Galatians 5:22-25
ê
According to this passage, what are the fruits of the spirit?
ê
Can you specifically think of 2-3 things that you could do to model each
of these for your children?
ê Which of these
fruits do you model well?
ê Which of them
do you need to work on most?
ê What are
you doing to work on your weaknesses?
Our children have many influences
from this world. List out all of the things or people that have influence in
your children’s lives
ê
Which of these influences are most likely to produce solid results?
ê
Which of these influences are unstable?
ê
At this point in life, do you have more or less influence over your kids
than the things listed? Why?
ê
What could you do to regain, hold, or build more influence in your
child’s life?
The idea of modeling
communicates that someone can trust and follow. Read Matthew 4:18-22.
ê
What word did this group of men get named for trusting and following
Jesus?
ê
In what ways is your relationship to your children similar to Jesus and
these men?
ê
In what ways will your decision to trust and follow Jesus impact your
children?
ê
Do your children know how you became a follower of Christ? Do they know
why?
ê
Do they see the influence Christ has in your life on a regular basis? In what ways?
Pray this week that God will allow
you to see the priority of becoming the greatest role model influence in your children’s
life. Also, pray and thank God that you have a great role model to learn from
and mimic yourself - found in the example of Jesus Christ
