The Results of Prayer
Part 4 of 4 in the series “Does Prayer Really Work?”

July 26, 2009                     Pastor Scott Oldenburgh

ê  Can you remember a time when you prayed about something and God answered just as you had hoped?

ê  Can you remember a time you prayed and you had to wait?

ê  Can you remember a time that God did not answer as you had hoped?

ê  Why do you think that sometimes God answers prayers differently?

READ MATTHEW 6:9

ê  What does the author call God?

ê  What does this role say about who God is?

ê  About how God can or cannot answer our prayers?

READ BACK OVER EACH STORY FROM THIS WEEK’S MESSAGE. (I Samuel 1, I Kings 18, Daniel 6, and John 17)

ê  What was the prayer of each person in the story?

ê  How did God respond in answering their prayers?

ê  What do you think each of them learned about God during this experience?

PRAYER IS A TEACHING TOOL THAT GOD PROVIDES TO US

ê  As we learn to communicate with God, what do you think God wants us to learn?

ê  When you think about babies, how do they relate to their Father?

ê  How does the relationship change as they get to be children?

ê  What about as they grow to be adults?

ê  How do you think our prayers might change as we grow in our faith?

Evaluate how and when you currently spend time praying.

Utilize this sermon series to make sure that you have a regular prayer time to spend with God.  But also, evaluate how you communicate with God during the normal routines of the day.

Commit to making prayer an important and essential part of your relationship with God.
