The Attitude of Prayer
Part 2 of 4 in the series “Does Prayer Really Work?”

PEOPLE PRAY THE MOST WHEN:

 

P  they have an (emergency)

P  they’ve made a major (mistake)

P  they feel (lost) or confused

P  they need (immediate) help

 

The prayer most recognized by the largest number of people is (The Lord’s Prayer)

 

THE PURPOSE OF THE LORD’S PRAYER WAS NOT TO:

 

·  get the (words) just right

·  build a religious (ceremony) around it

·  learn a (secret) of how to get what we want from God

 

The purpose of the Lord’s Prayer was developing the (attitude of prayer)

 

THE LORD’S PRAYER TEACHES US

 

Ž  to fully recognize who (God) is

 

“This, then, is how you should pray:  ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name . . . ’
Matthew 6:9

 

A reminder that God is (bigger) than my obstacles

 

 

Ž  to fully understand what is of (greater) importance

 

“ . . . your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:10

 

A reminder that the greatest place to be is in God’s (will)

 

 

Ž  to comprehend the difference between (wants) and (needs)

 

“Give us today our daily bread.”

Matthew 6:11

 

A reminder that God will (sustain) me

 

 

Ž  to not underestimate the power of (reconciliation)

 

 “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.”

Matthew 6:12

 

A reminder that loving God and others is (foundational)

 

 

Ž  to trust completely in the (protection) of God

 

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”

Matthew 6:13

 

A reminder that apart from God is a (scary) place to live
