March 15, 2009                  Pastor Scott Oldenburgh

Contagious:

That which is communicable by (contact)

Reality:

(Everyone) is contagious

Question:

Are you infectious or attractive?

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN INFECTIOUS AND ATTRACTIVE

Infectious:

Attractive:

makes people stay at arms length to (avoid) what
you have

(draws) people to see what
is going on

(scares) people
that they may grow
sick and die

lures people towards a
(fresh) way of life

sows (fear) in the hearts of people

sows (hope) in the hearts of people

leads to (lonely),
isolated living

invites to others to be (included)

“The person with such an infectious disease must wear torn clothes, let his hair be unkempt, cover the lower part of his face and cry out ‘Unclean!  Unclean!’  As long as he has the infection he remains unclean.  He must live alone; he must live outside the camp.”

Leviticus 13:45-46

“When he came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him.  A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, ‘Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.’  Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man.  ‘I am wiling,’ he said.  ‘Be clean!’  Immediately he was cured of his leprosy.  Then Jesus said to him, ‘See that you don’t tell anyone.  But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.’ ”

Matthew 8:1-4

PRINCIPLES OF LORDSHIP

r  The areas of my life that God has touched have become (attractive)

Side truth à

Attractive isn’t what I do on my own

r  The areas of my life that I keep isolated from God are (infectious)

Side truth à

Remaining infectious keeps people afraid of what I’ve got

DANGEROUS THOUGHTS

ðWhat would happen if I recognized that the only attractive part of my life is the part God has touched?

ðWhat would happen if I gave God the freedom to touch all areas of my life?

ðHow would the world view the church in light of this principle?
