I’m So Mad All The Time

Part 1 of 6 in the series “Out Of Control”

LOOK UP THE WORD ANGER IN THE CONCORDANCE OF YOUR BIBLE

Ê  What do you find about God being angry?

Ê  Why is anger ok or necessary?

Ê  When does it become a sin?

Ê  What is the difference between God’s anger and out of control anger or rage?

Ê  How would you define “righteous anger”?

READ PROVERBS 15:1 AND 22:24

Ê  What does the scripture teach about the effects of anger?

Ê  Do you personally struggle with anger?

Ê  Have you ever been surrounded by someone who is angry all the time?

Ê  What were/are the effects to the relationships?

Ê  Why do you think that out of control anger separates people?

READ PROVERBS 29:11

Ê  How does out of control anger relate to personal pride?

Ê  In what ways does an angry person try to control or manipulate others?

Ê  What are the short term effects?

Ê  What are the lasting effects?

ANGER IS OFTEN ASSOCIATED IN THE BIBLE WITH THE WORD “BURNS”

Ê  Why do you think this is?

Ê  What do you think would be the difference if someone who is out of control in their anger or someone who is motivated by a righteous anger when they are confronted or held accountable?

Ê  What happens when an angry, out of control person is confronted?

Ê  Why does this accountability fuel the fire?

READ I JOHN 2:11

This passage speaks about being blinded by our own devices

Ê  In what ways does or can anger blind someone?

Ê  In your experience does the angry person “see” that they are out of control?

Ê  What problems will this present?

Ê  If you are dealing with an angry person, what is your best source of hope?

Most people pray after they confront the issue, start today by praying for the angry person to see or recognize the effects of their anger, a changed heart, and how to best confront the situation.

Knowing that living out of control in any area of our lives has devastating consequences, think about the following question:

Ê  If you struggle with out of control anger, what do you stand to lose?

How has this anger already cost your family? Spouse? Children? Job? Friends? Strangers? Your witness to others?

LOOK BACK AT THE SECTION FROM THIS WEEK’S MESSAGE ON DEALING WITH OUT OF CONTROL ANGER

Ê  What steps do you need to take?

Ê  Who do you need to seek out?

Ê  What type of help might you need?

Ê  Where and when will it finally begin to change?

Pray this week for those dealing with the burning of out of control anger in their lives. Pray for those relationships affected by this anger and pray that God will be allowed to work in the heart/life of those that struggle.  Pray for God to show you how to overcome this anger and figure out why you are so angry if you are the one struggling. Commit to either seek support or be willing to be a person of support for those dealing with the devastation of out of control anger.
